The New Gabriel Bordeaux Wine Classification

In 'Bordeaux Total' (2000, ISBN# 3-7742-5279-3), René Gabriel has published his new Bordeaux red wine classification that takes into account current wine quality levels. Unlike the old classification from 1855, it includes the St. Emilion and Pomerol regions.

The classification proposes 5 numbered classes, a bourgeois class and a class of possible newcomers.

These are the 17 new Premiers Grands Crus, with some recent assessments and statistical data:

remarks:
1 Mean and standard deviation are calculated from the 16 best years of the 20 years 1999 to 1980 (i.e. 1/6 of the values (round up) are omitted; omitted years are indicated).
2 Léoville-Las-Cases' mean/sdev would be 18.1/1.1 if the mediocre years 92/87/80 weren't considered instead of the better 99/98/97 (which are missing due to the Château's picky tasting policies).
3 Only 9 years considered with Valandraud due to its novelty.
